Your Opinion Matters (poem)

This is a poem I wrote today while watching the 2020 election of the United States of America. I hope you enjoy it.

“Like the wind needed

To blow a ship’s sail

Your word is heeded

To make the final sale

Without your opinion

Without your will

Nature’s wordless minion

Will rule the last hill

Your opinion matters

Your vote really counts

An election or a disaster?

Or a mistake in the total count?

Whatever happens next

Your opinion still matters

Democracy hangs by its neck

If every word is laughter

A strong will, a swift word

Can keep a nation brave

Brave in the eyes of the world

To express yourself openly

To do the right thing

Your opinion matters

Your strong will sings.”

Thanks for reading my poem. If you enjoyed it, check out this other poem. I believe poetry has the power to change the word, and it’s a great way to get things off your chest because taking the time to rhyme lets you put your thoughts in different words. If you’re feeling down in these times, too, try writing a poem of your own. It might help.

Bye for now.
